Healing Harmonies
I founded Healing Harmonies in my sophomore year of high school, with an objective to spread the joy and healing properties of music to my community. Healing Harmonies provides students of Anne Arundel County Public Schools an opportunity to showcase their musical talents at local medical facilities. Through our performances, we aim to reduce stress and anxiety and increase the mood of patients. So far, our locations have included Autumn Lake Healthcare at Crofton, Autumn Lake Healthcare at Baltimore Washington, Autumn Lake Healthcare at Spa Creek, and The Celebration Villa of Manresa.
AACPS Service Leadership Board
I have been a member of the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Service Leadership Board since 2023. Through this board, I have been able to engage in opportunities to discuss student leadership and service learning in the county. We work with high school liaisons from different schools around the count to develop county wide service initiatives, attend service conferences, and communicate with community partners.
Our most recent county wide initiative in December 2024 was Spreading Smiles, a dental hygiene awareness project, where we made dental hygiene kits for local nonprofits to distribute and provided education materials to promote dental health.
Annapolis GiGi’s Playhouse Youth Leadership Board
I started volunteering at GiGI’s Playhouse Annapolis in October 2022, when I became part of their Youth Leadership Board. Through this board I helped organize fundraisers and activities to promote awareness and support children with Down Syndrome. I also participated in various events at the playhouse where I worked with children with Down Syndrome and engaged in activities to build their skills on different aspects of life. During the summer of 2023, I tutored an elementary school student at GiGi’s Playhouse to build her math skills and prepare her for the next school year.
Harmonies & Handicrafts
2024-2025
Harmonies & Handicrafts is an initiative that combines the two service projects Healing Harmonies and Adopt A Grandparent. With this initiative, students perform music at local nursing homes and also create crafts with the residents. The mission of both Healing Harmonies and Adopt A Grandparent is to foster social connections and boost happiness. By combining these two activities into one event, we hope to spread joy to both the residents and volunteers.
Harmonies & Handicrafts was awarded funding by the Kid Kindness Grant from the nonprofit Kindness Grows Here. The $500 we received funds the materials needed for the crafts with the residents like markers, color by number canvases, and paint.
Sri Siva Vishnu Temple
The SSVT Temple is my family’s place of worship. Since I was a child, I have visited the temple for prayer and holiday celebrations. In order to give back to my community, I volunteered regularly at the temple’s monthly sandwich making event for our local homeless shelters.
Vuong’s Martial Arts
I began taking Taekwondo classes at Vuong’s Martial Arts when I was five years old. I worked my way up to earning a black belt after ten years of training. After my black belt, I regularly volunteer at my dojo instructing elementary and middle school students through a formal Taekwondo curriculum in the after summer programs, summer camps, and color belt classes.
